Hi,
could I get your thoughts on when to open new br friendly bank account, I have a halifax basic account at the moment and have no debts with them, when I spoke to cccs yest they said I would probly be able to keep that acc but would be frozen for between 48hr - 5 days. I am a bit worried about this cause lots of people on this forum say banks freeze it even when they say they won't?
so I'm thinking about opening a barcleys acc this week and moving over dd etc (going br next fri) do you put this new account on your br forms?
thanks for your help.

Halifax are usually NOT BR friendly, but I suppose its worth leaving the account open and seeing what happens. However I think you should open either a Barclays basic bank account or the Co Op cashminder which are BR friendly and move your DD's etc.
If you open this account before BR you do need to declare it on the forms. We just put a note against our Cashminder Account to explain it was our basic acc to be used for wages, bills etc and when we spoke to the OR on the court day he just confirmed that he would have no interest in the account.0 -
ok great thanks, just a bit worried I will open the new account move all dd's/wages/benifits over and then they will freeze that as well! have you heard of that happening before?0

If your basic account was frozen for some reason, you would be able to ring your OR who would get it unfrozen for you.
Try not to worry, I know thats easier said than done, but its unlikely a basic account would be frozen. Good luck and any other worries just keep posting.

Your Coop account would not be frozen unless you live in Brighton where the OR tends to close any accounts pre BR and gets you to open a new one post BR. We opened our Coop account 10 weeks before going BR and it is still running fine 12 months on. Your Halifax account will definitely be shut down after going BR.:pB&SC No. 298

Yup! Halifax are NOT BR friendly and close down any accounts of BR as soon as they possibly can.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
