OMG! Have you seen this ad?!

I was looking through gumtree and found this ad looking for haircare staff at Westfield.

The title is what made me stop and look...

Sounds about right for how most of them operate from what I've seen. They hire a small area in the shopping centre/mall and if they catch your attention they hound you.
I'd like to warn people to avoid these type of sellers. I've fallen for it a couple of times, once with nail care stuff and once with sea salt bath goods. The products are overpriced and no better than anything you can buy in Boots etc.

...........and when you politely say "No thanks" and walk away from them they call after you "Aren't you interested in making yourself look better then?" or something similar.

Or if it's not beauty, they'll say "Aren't you bothered about saving some money then? " as though you're stupid.

Or my worst experience with some some religious door-knockers, "Don't you want your children to be saved by Jesus then?"

....and why do we polite people still feel we ought to turn and give a further polite response instead of just ignoring them or telling them to get lost??? Aaarggh!!

Horrible way to "sell" and tell me of someone who has bought in this way would ever want to seek them out to buy the product from them again! That's not the seller's aim though!
  • I was caught like this a year or so ago in our new shopping centre. I wasn't on my guard (why do we have to be?) when I was quickly caught by some people selling the salt stuff - I don't know how I was drawn in to it, but I ended up buying some hand scrub/moisturiser stuff which wasn't cheap, I think it was around the £20 mark!!!! I think it was dearer to start with, then when I said that I didn't want to spend THAT much, they brought the price down - amazing!!!

I gave it to my sister as when I got home I realised I wasn't going to use it. Needless to say now I avoid people like that like the plague, it is so wrong for them to do this though!

I couple of months ago I was in our local House of Fraser store and I got down to the bottom of the escalator and a man asked me to try this stuff, it might have even been the same stuff! - when I said, I'm busy - he said oh God aren't we all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter couldn't believe it!!! I really hate this type of selling.

Don't get me started on the people with the clipboards, trying to get you to sign up for donating to their charity............... I literally run past them now - too tired to argue with them
  • Yup, that sounds about right. I hate those people harrassing you as you try to shop!! So annoying!

These people are in The Mall in Norwich trying to flog people skincare stuff, they collared my poor hubby once, luckily he knew it was more than his life was worth to buy anything like that....

one of these people stopped me in a shopping centre last year, I said that I wasn't interested and carried on with my shopping. As I was heading back to the car, another person from the same stall approached me, so I decided to let her demonstrate the product on me, and acted like I was impressed (this lasted about 15 mins), then when she was finished I refused to buy it. You waste my time when I'm trying to shop; I'll waste yours when you're trying to work :D

It just shocks me that they actually advertise for people to be "agressive sellers". I know they are really hard-sell but didn't know its part of the job description to be agressive!

I had my hair curled by the one they are advertising for- the girl almost pleaded with me to do my hair, I was feeling a bit rubbish and thought this could boost my mood a little. I knew they'd try to sell me something, I am normally quite good at looking very interested, taking down details and then returning at a later date as "my boyfriend/friend/mum has my wallet and has gone to the cinema..." but the women who did my hair, curled half, tried to convince me to pay £150 for one each of the curler/straighteners and then when I said yet again, "not today I have no money with me" she gave me a look that really just left me speachless before adding "I suppose you want me to do the other half of your head then".

See now what I should have done is say "no" at that point and gone straight over to the information desk and made a personal complaint against her. Then gone elsewhere to buy hairclips to hide the mess!
