Lloyds Current Account - dare I use it again?

Prior to going bankrupt I was planning on entering into an IVA. I opened a new current account with Lloyds (no overdraft although they offered it to me, I declined) but full account facilities - debit card, cheque book, internet backing, etc, etc. I ran the account without a blip for approx 6 months before deciding to go bankrupt rather than the IVA route. The Lloyds account was still up and running perfectly and they were not a creditor in my bankruptcy.

When interviewed by the OR I told him about the Lloyds Current account (also have a savings account with them too) and he said he had no interest in it. I did, however, send him my Lloyds debit card, cut up, along with other credit cards, as requested. To be on the safe side I withdrew all but a nominal amount from the Lloyds account as I knew they were likely to freeze it... but it appears they never did.

My Lloyds current account, to all intents and purposes, still seems to be up and running, as is the savings account - I can access details of both via internet banking and, as I haven't used the accounts for several months, have received 'please come back to us' emails from Lloyds.

I've just received ED and, whilst I have another bank account, it doesn't have the range of facilities the Lloyds account had, and to start putting some away into a savings account would be nice. Question is, do I 'dare' start using the accounts again? I don't want to run and ask Lloyds direct and alert them to the fact I've been BR but also don't want them to suddenly freeze the account if I start having my pay put back in there. Any suggestions? I'm thinking I could ring them saying my card has been damaged, could they send a replacement, and, if that comes through without question, tentatively start using the accounts again... thoughts...?!

Contact lloyds and see what they say.....bear in mind though they may close the account once they know

Not sure why they would freeze the account if you don't owe them anything? Why not try paying in £20 and then spending it, as a test.

  • Yeah, I think I might try that NekoZombie. :)

Reluctant to contact Lloyds and ask them direct, philnicandamy, as I'm fairly sure they'd then close the account anyway - they're not exactly known for being BR-friendly (or post-BR as I keep having to remind myself!)
  • Lloyds will allow you to carry on using the account. Quite a number of us on here were in the same position. If you want extra reassurance, call them to confirm but it's really not necessary. You won't be able to have the overdraft facility though.
  • That's good news. Thank you. :)

you have been discharged so there is no reason for Lloyd's to close your account being discharged means just that that your OR has finished with you :D

I have a similiar situation with Nat West Step account. Recently started using it again with no problem and have even got a new Visa Debit card :)

Did you check with them first, or just start using it again anyway?

Put a small amount in the account such as 10 pounds and see what happens.

I agree that it is not best to alert them to the fact that you have been bankrupt.
