Hi Comfort, reading your thread I felt compelled to post.
This is a new id for me, I have my original one on which I usually use to post with, but this is confession time.

I too had several carrier bags of unopened statements and bills etc, my situation had escalated to where I tried to get to the post first as I knew there would be demands & threatening letters as well as the dreaded bank statements.
My husband is still blissfully unaware of this & I fully intend to keep it this way.
As daft as this may seem to most posters, we have savings. I say we, it is money my husband has set aside that is in a joint account, yet I owe several thousand on my credit card and my overdraft is £1000.

So, I am paying interest for nothing, well yes, but I feel I must retrieve myself from this hole I am in.

I am by no means destitute, just foolish, yet i want to hit 40 debt free and able to budget properly.

I am sorry if this looks like a thread hi-jack Comfort, I just want you to know you are not alone and I think we can do this together.

I made a start today, I paid £11 of my card (all in 2p's & 1p's), this is on top of the payment I made at the start of the month which was a little above the minimum payment. :j

Good luck whatawit, we are all here to support you as well x

    Well done whatatwit.

Your name is a bit of a self put down, I feel rude typing it. Perhaps you should be notatwit or something?

Hi everyone and thanks for posting that whatatwit. It really helps to know that I'm not the only one trying to struggle out of a mess.

Well since i was last here I have done something constructive. I have got myself a new job. With this new job I will be able to keep up all the payments I need to make although it will not leave me with anything left over to chuck at anything extra. However, at least I am positive the debt will not get worse.

I've listed all the family bills that need paying and husband has agreed to up payments to cover this. I am still responsible for paying the mortgage.

My new calculations are as follows:

    Mortgage £ 440.00
    Car Tax/Repairs £ 45.00
    Child Care £467.00
    Train Fares £284.00
    Car Park £ 59.00
    Loan £148.00
    Adams Card £ 66.00
    Tesco Credit C £ 57.00
    Cash for mth £ 80.00
    pay back o/ds £ 15.00

    Total £1661.00

Salary (mth) £1551.71 (hopefully) (25K pa)
    Child Benefit £ 110.00

    Total £1661.71

I doubt I will get CTC anymore so haven't included it

I've also added up my debts *shock horror* and its not as bad as I thought, details now in my sig.

Thanks for that, it's helpful :)

What is 'Martin life'? Also, have you shopped around for your contents insurance? Last thing, I think you should be able to reduce your food bill - depending on how many of you there are of course.

I've just read my first ever post from last month, and the difference in my feelings within that short space of time is amazing. Then I was scared. Now I feel in control. It will take me years to clear this, but the problem is no longer insurmountable. I must thank everyone on this site who has been an inspiration to me.

I promise myself that everyday I will pop on here to read something even if its only one post. To keep that fervour going and to maybe one day hopefully be able to help someone else.

    Hi Moozie,

My hubbys life insurance, we have a policy each. Part of the mortgage requirements. Agree that contents insurance could be changed but we are in the middle of an insurance claim and want that settled first. Food bill is to feed 4. Myself, hubby, 5 year old and 7 year old. We manage on that since we pay for school dinners too.
