Mortage Adviser asks for weight and height

Hi Everyone,
My GF and her sister are currently in the process of buy their first house and they have gone to a mortgage adviser. They've decided on a mortgage and it is being processed. On Friday the mortgage adviser emailed them and asked for their weight and height; which struck me as a very odd request.
I have advised her to ask why they need this information, but does anyone have any idea why a mortgage adviser would need to know this?
Thanking you in advance

Thanks for your replies - it seems fairly unanimous thats its for life insurance! I only asked because my GF filled out the medical questionnaire last week and that didn't ask for height and weight - the mortgage adviser asked for these separately (unless she just missed that question on the form).
Anyway, if it's for life insurance, I guess its a legitimate thing to ask.0 -

Missed it seems likely then.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Only if you actually asked them to obtain quotes etc for life cover0 -
ive had this before - cos if you are overweight, the insurer sends out a nurse to do your blood pressure, urine (diabetes, kidneys, etc) and measure your waist to hip ratio (in case you are apple shaped and therefore likelier to suffer from heart disease).
Based on that info, they will work out your premium.

There'a a formula to work out a person's Body Mass Index (BMI) based on their height & weight; which then indicates if they are overweight or underweight and therefore susceptible to certain health issues.0
