Printers

My Epsom Stylus Colour 740 is giving trouble big time, and I have finally decided to get a new printer.

Wanted:
- Under £100
- Colour
- Reliable
- Easy to use
- Something that can print photos if necessary
- I already have a scanner, but am willing to consider an all in one and sell my scanner
- Something that is fairly economical on inks - mine clogs up as I don't use it very often, and even it is used rarely now it is giving so much trouble

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

  • It could well be - many thanks for your input. Would like to hear of any further recommendations either for this product, or other products on the market at the present time.

Does anyone actually have this product, and if so, pros and cons would be appreciated.

The Epson R300 is a good printer cheap for ink refills (compatabile ones costs around £10-£20 full set 6 cartridges). Mines never ket me down since I got it in July last year. It also does dvd/cd on printable discs. Its around £80-£90. Yoiu need a USB lead costs about £1.50-£2.

No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you
  • Shrek, do you use your Epson frequently, and if not, does it tend to dry out in between prints? I have read somewhere else on this site of an Epson drying out, so it may be a bit of a problem with that particular make.

I found with mine that you have to waste ink trying to get the ink flow through again, so it tends not to be so economical (that was when it worked!) It only has the two cartridges, black and three-colour.
  • I had the same problem as you Loobeylou, with my Epson Stylus 750. I was wasting more ink in trying to clean the heads than in actual printing :( I bought a Canon Pixma IP2000 to replace it and i'm very happy with it. If your printing is very infrequent then something like an HP may be better, as the head gets changed with the cartridge. I've had no problems so far with the Canon though, and I guess I print maybe once every two weeks or so. Had it for 4 months and never had to do a head clean yet either!

  • Go for the Canon IP4000. I've bought TWO!! They also print direct to printable CD/DVDs and have a seperate cart for each colour.
  • Many thanks for the input on this. It is very handy to know if other people are experiencing the same problems and what they have found to be good printer-wise.

With regard to printing to printable CD/DVD's, I have had no knowledge or experience of doing this and am not sure at the moment if this is, or would be, important to me.

I do not want to spend a fortune, but at the moment I am rarely able to print out on my Epson 740 so I do need to get something sorted. The primary aim is to get something which fits the bill, as set out in my first message.
