Income Payment Order and Cancer

Hi Everyone.
My husband and I will be automatically discharged from bankruptcy on the 11th November. In the meantime I have been diagnosed with Cancer. I am currently off work and my pay drops next month to half pay. We both have an IPO, mine for £240 and my husbands for £100. We have only just paid under a year of this and it needs to be paid for 3 years, but there is no way we will be able to pay it while my pay is half. I am a teacher and the highest earner. I want to inform the OR straightaway, however my husband thinks we should leave it till we are no longer bankrupt, as otherwise they may increase our bankruptcy to longer. Are they allowed to do this? I am scared of doing this, as the payments go out on the 14th of the month for the IPO and I will not be able to cancel it in time if I wait until after we are not bankrupt on the 11th. Any advice would be welcome. Hope this makes sense.

Hi choc2497, I'm so sorry to hear about your Cancer and sending big hugs x Notify your OR straightaway and NO it will not affect your AD at all.......once the year is up that is it, they can't lengthen it.
Best wishes

Hi choc2497,
Hugs to you at this terrible time. Just to add to what wishes has said - When you inform the OR of the decrease of payments to your income, sub mit a new SOA from both of you and adjust them accordingly - Your OH may have to pay more towards the household bills & groceries to be able to support you both. You may find that both your IPA's will be adjusted - or suspended in your case.
For however many months the payments are decreased or suspended, these months will still count towards you 3 years. i.e you have paid 12 months, suspended for 12 months, you will only have 12 months left to pay - iykwim...
