Buying/Riding a scooter in NI

Hey, I'm looking to buy a cheap(ish) second hand scooter to ride in Belfast only. Have been struggling to find any info about using a scooter in NI, as I believe you need to do a CBT in England, Scotland and Wales, but not here. Can anyone help me out with more information?
As far as I'm aware, I just need a scooter, a helmet, L plates and a provisional license (and some insurance preferably). Also, if anyone has any recommendations as to where I can get a decent one for between £200-400 that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

I'm fairly sure that to ride on the road unaccompanied you need to pass the CBT test. I had to do this for my motorbike test before I did the practical on road test and the theory test before the CBT. This then would let you ride on L plates on a provisional license, but the CBT is only valid for 2 years so I think you would have to take it again.
Can't help really on the purchasing end of things sorry, but it might be worthwhile doing the whole full test so that you could ride a motorbike and/or having to avoid the CBT retest etc.....Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

no a CBT isnt needed in northern ireland at all.
you are right you just nee dyour provisional, a helmet and insurance, although i would strongly recommend a good padded jacket, good strong trousers (waterproof will help you a lot too!) and a good pair of gloves.
if you wanted you could by my Honda CBR 125R for 1500... bit over your budget but worth asking...
but seriously, enjoy the scooter if you do get one. there are deals done by some of the small bike shops where you pay like 15 a week and that covers your scooter payments and insurance all in one i think, worth checking that out if you are able to pay that way or would prefer to pay that way.0
