So, I'm guessing that by the very fact that we're on here most of the time, it's you that is the main person to sort out the finances in your household?
My question is, how do you sort out/keep track of your partners side of things.
We use both incomes for bills etc, but because we can't get a joint account his salary goes into his, and he then transfers most of it to my account. The rest he uses to pay for his petrol, a loan he has, and to pay Thames Credit (his old business debt). Problem is, I'm tracking said loan etc, making overpayments into it, but I can't see the balance.
I tried making an online spreadsheet which worked great until it crashed cos it was too big and complicated for google to handle
Even then though he didn't update it - Not once :mad: :rolleyes:
So I've just got one on my pc now, but he's reluctant to give me straight access to his accounts. Not, I believe, cos he has anything to hide, but he doesn't like the feeling that he's not in control or that he's answerable in his spending to me (he knows he is really, just likes to pretend he has a say in the matter
)
What does everyone else do to get round this type of thing? I suppose I just need to insist that I get access

I use a well known financial package on my PC. I also have internet banking so can download transactions straight from our bank accounts into the software. My partner is completely disinterested in money so was happy to let me set the same thing up for her accounts. It has been an eye opener but I try not to comment as I'm grateful to have a full understanding of our financial position.
Therefore we have lots of information, just a lack of money to count!

LOL! Know that one!
I couldn't seem to get to grips with MS Money. It meant I had too much information, in too many places. The spread sheet I've got amalgamates the snowball spreadsheet, the MSE Budget spreadsheet and some extra bits of my own. Makes it really easy to see what I can overpay, my current DFD, what I have overpaid, and where everything has gone each month :j (Can you tell I'm quite addicted to my spreadsheet!)Debts @ lightbulb moment (13/06/2006) - £59,842.23 :eek: All commercial debts now clear!!! :T Debts April - £20,000 to family (incl extra £10k borrowed for house deposit). Morning Brassic, easy answer from me,when DH walks through the door the first thing he does is hand me any receipts for anything he has spent that day,I then put it straight into my little book.My friends say I'm a control freak and that it's treating DH like a child, but if I didn't do this,I wouldn't have a clue how much money was in the bank.DH has no problem with our 'setup' he knows he is VERY bad with money,so he leaves it to me.I get a little embarassed when he phones me from work to ask if he can get some money out,his workmates can't believe their ears, but it works for us.
All our money goes into the same joint account, all bills go out of the same account.Debt at highest £102k :eek:

This is what is so silly - he was more than happy to get a joint account (just all the banks refused us :rolleyes: ) so not quite sure why he is so unwilling to relinquish control on this :rolleyes: Men!

Don't worry. I can totally relate to loving spreadsheets!!
Hey livinginhope. I have a seriously large debt as well (too embarassed to admit to it precisely) but am lucky in having a very good income as well. I'm doing a self-administered DMP currently as I have a lot of equity in my house and a job which absolutely forbids bankruptcy. Are there any threads around for people in a similar situation (the hundred k club)? If you are interested and in a similar circumstance, do let me know.

I use Egg money manager to hold all the accounts togther. you fill in all your passwords etc once & it pulls through info from all accounts & credit cards and you can drill through from the front sheet. Only my savings accounts cant be connected as its not an online account. This way means i can check everything in one go. OH doesnt use the card except in exceptional circumstances & he is slowly being converted to the MSE way so not much cash. I tihnk you need to ahve an Egg product to get it though.....another happy bug.........sorry,blogger embracing the simple life0

I've got Egg products - I'm just scared of using Money Manager. Don't like one place having so much of my information - I expect I'm just paranoid though :rolleyes:
Besides, I like my spreadsheet

My oh is just to busy working to even think about money so he is happy for me to manage this aspect of our life. We have a joint account for income but also a seperate account each for paying bills, saving for certain things etc. He gives me all his receipts for me to keep up our joint daily spending diary. He doesn't ask me if he can draw money out but tells me if he has so I can record it (I would know anyway cos I check all our accounts online every day). I love spreadsheets and I often fall asleep at night doing calculations in my head. How sad am I?Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
