How is this going to affect the way You tube is used and viewed? On the news they said contributers may be able to earn money from it: will it become so big that it loses it's value?

Well the simplest way to let people make money would be to allow them to put their own Google Adsense ads on the page for any video they upload (Ads on Blogger.com work this way). So they could do that extremely quickly.
I heard someone say just the other day that this Google/Youtube thing would never happen since there were soooo many people wanting to sue Youtube for copyright infringement - Google (with such deep pockets) buying them would start an avalanche!0 -
Well, I personally think YouTube is great for 2 reasons...one because I'm a huge music fan and I love the fact I can browse for hard-to-find video of my favourite artists I can only hope that the deals brokered with all the major record companies doesn't mean we're limited to official versions only.
Secondly, it's great because if you want to put mints in Coke or talk gibberish for 5 minutes, you can do it. Freedom of expression. Ok, so you and I might not want to watch it, but at least these people are learning interaction - it's got to be better than being frozen in front of your Playstation? Some of these people will go on to explore more serious types of filming for the net - and that has to be applauded, surely.
I use MySpace and it's not without it's problems, I agree. It is, essentially, a giant popularity contest. However, there is lots of great content on there too.
Problem is, with these takeovers, I can see things becoming sanitised. If a kid is on You Tube miming to the Backstreet Boys, then the record company can shut that video down as it's using their material. That's not what YouTube is about. I can see content being monitored, doctored, people no longer surfing, then finally, a subscription charge. And it'll kill what makes these sites special...0 -
But google had their own video thingy which was a copy of YouTube where I saw "loose change" for the first time. Am I missing something here??Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

YouTube is by far the most popular video sharing site and has a much higher share of the market than Google Video, and it's growing at a faster rate. That's why they bought it.Aiadi wrote:But google had their own video thingy which was a copy of YouTube where I saw "loose change" for the first time. Am I missing something here??0 -
