I have very dodgy feet and got mine from Hotter shoes: http://www.hottershoes.com/en/Womens-Shoes/GORE-TEX?DisplayProductList=true

I don't think you could climb mountains in them but they are great for normal hiking.

Great thanks for the replies, they need to be casual as I work from home, so no need to look smart.

I've been looking on Amazon which have some quite good reviews, but alot of them commented on the size being smaller, so will definitely need to go and try them on....but I can't help but look for a bargain!!

Looked at some in Costco today but they didn't have my size....bummer.

I have such trouble with shoes that I'm determined to get a comfy pair...........

You need to try them on - Merrell for instance suit a slightly wider foot, but are a bit short on length. They do feel like you're walking in slippers though!

I would second going into a good outdoor shop & trying lots on. Talke to the assistant and use their knowledge to find the ones that fit & suit what you need best, then come home & source them on the internet ;)
  • does anyone know of a long term user review site for walking boots?
i can find loads recommending various brands but only one or two posters who tell it like it is after a couple of months of wear, which is what we all need to know.

had i known that the sole of the raichle gtx boots comes away for a past time i wouldnt have bought them. i am now looking at hi-tec on the recommend of which? mag but even they have problems with waterproofing after some miles.
  • I would second what others have said and I would go to a good outdoor shop and try them on. I live in mine and I actually ended up with a man's shoe rather than a ladies due to being a size 8 and my foot being an odd shape. I would also say get the best you can afford as I have had mine for over 10 years and they are still going strong.

Take a look at Hoggs. I have some Hoggs walking boots and they are over 15 years old and I still wear them regularly.

Very comfy in leather with breathable inside. I have replaced the laces several times over the years but they are so comfy. I walk a lot so they've had plenty of use on all sorts of terrain.

I thought they were expensive when I bought them but they have been worth every penny. Last winter the lining at the back had worn thin and I took them to a local shoe repairer and he sewed in padded suede cushions (cost about £6) and they are wonderful again.

In the summer I wear either trainers or walking sandals and both are very comfy too. The trainers are my newsest and I went for gait analysis for those and since day 1 they have just felt great.

Merrell for me without a doubt. I have fairly narrow feet and I haven't found that to be an issue with Merrell shoes.

I would however strongly suggest that you try the shoes on as I stupidly bought a pair of walking boots online after having a previous pair of the same brand that fitted and they were awful. I am not sure if that was just Hi-Tex problems though. There is really nothing to beat making sure that you try various brands and fittings on. Any reputable outdoor shop like Tiso positively encourages that. They in fact allow you to take the shoes/boots home and wear them around the house and if you discover that they don't suit you can return them.

Just get the waterproof spray and redo them at intervals- that's what I've found I've needed to do with most of my walking shoes.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
