DiY BR forms problems at court?

Hi all,
The nice lady at the CAB who was going to do my forms for court has gone on holiday for a month. My creditors are closing in so I'd rather crack on and do the BR myself now. She seemed adamant that if I did my own forms there would be a high chance of being turned away at court on the day of my BR if I'd filled something in slightly wrong.
What are people's experience's of this? Anyone turned away from court? Are there any online resources with help filling them in? Someone suggested phoning the Insolvency Service and going through the forms with them before the court date.
Your feedback would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Timpe

hi there
a lot of people do the forms on their own. is your case particularly complicated? i did my forms myself with the help of people on here, and i phoned the insolvency service when i got stuck0 -
Hi Timpe
I haven't heard of anyone being turned away before.
We filled our forms in by hand and on the day, a couple of mistakes we made were corrected by the court official without a problem.
There's a guide here that might be of some help too

As if BR wasn't stressful enough, you've got someone from the CAB trying to put the frighteners on you!
You won't get turned down at the court if you've got something slightly wrong - the clerk you see will just correct it on the forms when you are there.
If you read the stickys at the top of this forum, you'll find, among lots of other great advice and information, examples of completed BR application forms. They helped me when I was completing mine.0 -
Hi Timpe - I petitioned my own bankruptcy last week. Filled forms in at home and arranged interview with the courts. The court staff were very helpful and a member went through the forms with me which took about 30mins before going in to see the judge for about 30sec. The whole thing was very relaxed and professional. I then was allowed to speak to the OR over the telephone with regards to a possible interview in the near future if they feel it necessary. Everyone is there to help you and not to attack believe me. Good Luck0

having seen lots of the forms that make it through the court process, you would need to be monumentally inept at filling in forms to be turned away.Hi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
Hi I filled in forms myself for me and my hubby and all was fine. They can look quite daunting at first but just take it question by question and if you get stuck there is always someone on this forum who will help you, you just have to ask. No question is too small or silly. Trust me I asked loads!

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. Sorry not to get back to you all sooner but been without internet access. Very reassuring so I will crack on and do my own BR now. Are the only forms you need to fill out the 6.27 and 6.28? Is the SOA part of them or a separate document?
Thanks again

From memory, yes they are the only forms you need to do and, yes, the SOA is part of it.
I did my own forms, arranged the appointment at the court, etc. Although it was a little daunting it was, in reality, straightforward enough. Just ask on here when you get stuck.
I also found the example of filling in the forms (on Angiepange's link earlier in the thread) very, very useful.
Personally I found it easier to print the form off and fill it in by hand as it seemed to give me more 'thinking time' than filling it in online, and I could pencil things in first, etc, but either method is fine - it's personal preference really.
And don't forget to take (2 more, I think - best to double check) copies of your form/s to the court with you.0 -
Thanks confuzzled. Do you need to take proof of your debts or show them at some other time?0

No, you just put the details of all your creditors (and associated amounts) down on your form. All I took with me were my forms & copies; some ID (don't think I needed this but took it just to be on the safe side); the cash (felt a bit dodgy walking from the car park to the court with that much money in my bag!); and some spare change for the coffee machine (which wasn't working - the most traumatic part of my day!); and a magazine.
In the follow-up interview with the OR (Official Receiver) (usually done over the phone) he/she will usually go through your debts with you. They'll then send details of what you need to send them (past statements, loan agreements, payslips etc). Don't worry if you don't have all of these though - I was missing some, just explained that, and they then got hold of (presumably) those that were missing.
The whole 'court experience' is nowhere near as traumatic as you'd imagine it would be.0
