Hi Rock it up - How did it go ? have you digressed any further ? I too have the same dilemma, I have a Final Salary scheme and a few Private and Company based pensions too. Having lived away from the UK for 7 years, I'm feasibly up for transferring into a QROPs. So whats the damage would dearly love to try to obtain some FREE unbiased help in making my decision.I don't mind paying for the solution but why does everyone jump for cover when you ask for help with QROPS!! Unless of course you revert to an IFA whom I'm concerned (?) will be biased towards referring me to a scheme that provides them with a nice comms % HELP Please
It is illegal for an IFA to recommend something on the basis that it will benefit them financially. They have to show you all the options and provide a reason why they are recommending something. All of this will be filed away and can be re-looked at in years to come. This is 2010 and if you believe that an IFA would risk his own career for a little bit more commission, you are really mistaken.

Unbiased free advice... Free?
Why should you get the benefit of years of study, taking the compliance risks and all the actual work that goes into recommending something for nothing?
Do you get your car fixed for free labour from a mechanic?
Do you get an electrician to wire your house for free?
Have you ever heard of an Accountant or Solicitor giving free advice?
The attitude that you can (or even should) get Good advice for nothing is a terrible one. One that will have to change in 2012 when we will not have the option to be paid by commission.
PS - anyone can give advice, I would rather pay for Good advice.I work in finance

What did it end up costing you in fees/charges?0
