Uses for dried skimmed milk powder other than as milk?

  • I suppose you would have to find some other use for it because it isn't much use as milk. It tastes horrible.......the powder sticks to the mouth.:rotfl: No it doesn't taste like real milk even when made up with water or filtered water for that matter.

Does any of this stuff taste like real milk? Or is it because it's made from that horrible pasteurised stuff? I hated that stuff at school when I was a child and don't like it any better now.
  • I add powerder milk to my mashed potatos to 'enrich' it for my son, I've found it's a good way to sneak some extra calories/calcium into him while he's in one of his "eats like a bird" phases (between the "hollow legs, never full" phases lol). Not to sure how it'll taste with the tesco stuff though.

[EDIT] nice, great big NEWBIE! sign on my post *face palm*

I always use it to make my own condensed milk.
    1 cup milk powder.
    2/3 cup sugar
    1/3 cup boiling water
3 tbsp butter (I always just use marg)

Whisk together for 3 mins. Keeps quite happily in the fridge in a screw-top jar.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

It's useful when making HM yoghurt to thicken it. You can also use milk powder in HM bath bombs and soaps.
