Struggling to get into the Xmas Spirit :o( Help me!

Hello All,

I love Christmas, normally. However, my parents are emigrating to New Zealand a week on Thursday and i just can't seem to get into the xmas spirit.

I made a list of presents to get people, but when i thought of it i was just a bit sad/emotional. It may sound a bit pathetic, i'm nrly 24 yrs old, but i've never had a Christmas without my parents.

This year, my eldest bro is hosting the event and so i'll be with my siblings on the day before going to my boyfriends [we've been together 8 mnths at xmas] in the evening, but either way, it isn't going to be the same.

So! In an effort to snap out of my self-pity, i'm going to attempt to make a christmas list today properly....

Mum and Dad - i've got some ideas, but obviously need to factor in shipping costs!
Eldest Bro - so far got him Burberry fragrance, was only £10 in boots.
SIster in law - Christina Aguilera Fragrance, £9 in boots. Need to get her something else as it's her birthday on xmas day.
Youngest bro - probably a fragrance and some clothing, may have to factoring shippin costs as hes emigrating shortly after my parents to NZ.
Boyfriend - Tour around his football club, fragrance and clothing i think.
Sister - she'll prob want same old fragrance and i'll get her summat else.
Sister's partner - not sure.
Niece - 5yrs old, may take her to the panto and get her a puzzle.
Nephew - he's only 2yrs old, may get him some reading books and clothes.

Thanks for reading/listening :o

my mum lives in Oz and in the past i have arranged for a bouquet of flowers to be delivered on Christmas Eve. I googled for a florist in Oz and did it that way. I'm sure you could find web sites for local stores in NZ and arrange to have something delivered.

Don't worry too much about it just yet Alipops, you're not meant to be 'in the christmas spirit' just yet. Its still only October.

It's not surprising you are upset though, anyone would be having their parents move away. I know its hard but you have to realise that some of us are even in a worse position than you - our parents are no longer with us, full stop. :( At least with the internet and Skype with webcams you can stay in touch, I know its not the same (my husband works a lot of the year in China :() but you will at least be able to see and hear them through your computer, a luxury some of us don't have. ;)

  • Awww :( I really feel for you, must be hard.
The flower delivery is a lovely idea! I bet your mu would love that as an Xmas eve surprise :)
Well done for starting your lists. I'd suggest having a look at some of the home made threads. Maybe making some Christmas chutney (yummy on on Good food website) would help you get in the spirit :) I have book marked loads of pages of home made food gifts I'm planning on making, and trialled a few ;) I'm sure your brother would appreciate some home made tasty treats for Christmas day too! xx

Why not focus on saving as much as you can to surprise them with a Christmas visit next year :)
