Moving away - 3 months Gym membership left to pay? Can I just delete Direct Debit?

Hi there
Myself and my partner are moving out of the area and back in January 2010 we signed up to 12 months gym membership at our local Bannatyne gym (which I think is an OK gym, but not as good as I was initially lead to believe).
So lets say I move out the area with November, December, January still to pay.
There is nothing stopping me from canceling my direct debit to pay the gym (and thus saving us about £81 between x 3 months) but what could come of this IF I did it?
Its not like Bannatyne are going to know my new address (unless the people that are buying our place tells them).

Any ideas?
Has anyone else done anything similar before?
thanks

  • You need to check your contract with the Gym some are credit agreements and cancelling the DD will result in a non payment appearing on your credit record.

Have you asked them about early termination or transferring to another gym? Or do you think its ok to agree to 12 months of something then just walk away part way through?

You can't just cancel a DD like that. Have you spoke to anyone at the gym? They might still eb able to take the money out.

Definitely before you do that see if there is a Bannatyne's near where you are moving to: it might be better than the one you're currently at.

But I believe even at the end of the contract you might be required to give 3 months notice, I would most definitely check that out! Otherwise you may find them chasing you for another 3 months after the end of the 12 months.
