Help re setting up private arrangement

Hi there,

Hope someone can help. I have a good relationship with my ex and have made payments through the csa for the last ten years. I lost my job in April and went onto nil assessment and she was great through this.

I have now started work again and the csa want my info. I suggested to my ex that she close the case and have a private arrangement with me.

She agreed and says she has rang them this morning and they are advising that she does a direct payment, which I think is where they still assess me and then I pay her direct.

I am wondering if she is on benifits (income support) can she close/suspend this case and just deal with me or does she have to use them?

The case is on the old system.

Any help/advice would be appreciated

Thanks

It doesn't matter whether your ex is on benefits or not as child support no longer affects her benefits, she can close down the case tomorrow if she so wished. I would be weary about her suspending the case.

Honestly if you are both amicable get rid of the CSA they are more bother than they are worth.

  • as advised the parent with care can close the case at anytime - the agency would promote maintenance direct as it makes it easier for the case to come back through the agency if the private agreement breaks down.
