Just a thought....

I have been pondering this scenario and would welcome your comments. This isn't my own case, but that of my sister....

PWC has 2 children. NRP moves in with my sister who has 3 children and he begins to pay maintenance to PWC. CSA take into account his earnings and CTC.
My sister has 1 child living with her, and 2 with her ex-partner (long story). She pays for the absent children through the CSA and once again, they take her earnings and CTC into account.

This means, therefore, that CTC are being used twice to work out maintenance payments. How is this fair?

Ask for a variation but it would be too mind boggling for them to work it out.

but they would take into account the ctc for one child her ex has to pay too. It is more likely that her ex earns more than she does, so in the end, even though he has two children with him, he still might be paying more than what he receives. How would that be fair too?
  • Actually, the ex doesn't work at all and she doesn't get any maintenance for the child that lives with her - very presumptious of you to assume that a man would earn more than a woman!!!

I did say it was 'more likely' based on the unfortunate workforce statistics!

I was just trying to make the point that we could give unlimited exemples of unfairness where all parties loose out. One thing that is unfair too is that a pwc will receive the same amount of tax credits regardless of the maintenance she receives. How is it fair that someone who gets nothing from the nrp gets no more than someone who might be getting £500+ a month, but that's the system for you....
  • The whole system is unfair - and I guess everyone has their own story and angle on things.
To hope that everyone would be kind, fair and unselfish would be to hope for too much! It just makes me sad that over the past few weeks - I have been caught up in such negative, unhappy feelings that I've lost a grip on what's important - and that's spending quality time with my children!
