Washington Tyne and Wear
I'm heading to Washington with some friends for a girlie weekend next weekend. We are all into moneysaving so can anyone tell me of any outlet stores, factory shops or just good places for bargains in the area? We will have a car so can travel around the area.
Also any good ideas for places of interest to visit round about or places to eat in Washington. We have been to Beamish but most of the North East is new to us.
Thanks to all

Girlie weekend in washington?
Didnt think there was anything IN Washington other than the naffy shopping centre and big B&Q...0 -
Oh dear - surely the northeast has got something to offer!!!0

Yes the North East has plenty to offer (it is a HUGE area covering Northumberland down to Yorkshire after all!), it is just Washington doesnt really have what you are after.
Retail outlet places are Dalton Park in Peterlee (on A19 before Washington if you are travelling from the south), and Royal Quays in North Shields (through the tyne tunnel and follow signs for ferry). Both are average, not as good as some in the country.
Shopping wise, Metro Centre in Gateshead (on the A1) and Newcastle are best in the area.0 -
yes, what shelle said

Dalton park is very cheap http://www.dalton-park.co.uk/
Metro centre is ok, the only thing I found is that because its so big im always getting lost :rotfl:0 -
please take no notice of djsatansfury, you will have a great time. I live in Washington and there are some great places to go in the area. Try Chester-le-Street which has some great pubs and the night life is really good. You enjoy yourself0

The Nagel of the North is near Washington and Digger Land (my OH always wants to visit when we go see my mum who lives 5 minutes away from Washington)
I went for a Hen Weekend in Newcastle/Gateshead - if you venture there on a night out - You've got to visit Buffolo Joes - we spent most the night in there and it was hilarious!

I'm from the area and can remember when around Washington was all fields - I can even remember getting the day off school to go and see Princess Anne open the Galleries (it was open to the elements back then lol)
Washington has sod all to offer anyone apart from people who get off on roundabouts. The best features of Washington are the A195, A194(M), A1231 and the A1(M).
You'd be way better off going to Newcastle for your evening out because my experience (both sides of the bar) is that Chester-le-Street is full of unpleasant "village-mentality" morons ("I'm from village X, you're from village Y, I don't like you even though they're less than a mile apart" - punch up ensues)
Certainly more places to eat in Newcastle. There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
yet again rubbish, insulting and totally misleading. you will enjoy yourself.

Yes - that's where I live now - nice open countryside.
I grew up in and around Washington from when it was still in Co. Durham - I left in 1998 through work, visit (my parents) frequently and it's exactly the same as when I left it - apart from all the district numbers are disappearing in favour of 'village' names. Still endless roundabouts and no character.
The difference in Chester-le-Street now is that the people that used to be involved in drunken brawls are now greying and their younger siblings and in some cases offspring have taken up the family trade of appearing before the magistrates. There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
