  • I think most Conservatives (myself included) feel that the Child Benefit fiasco was a massive own-goal and raises further concerns about Osborne (I never felt he was the right choice). It overshadowed the conference, was ill thought out and ill-timed. The money will be handed back through some allowance or other - just adding to cost and administration.
As to the comment from Bendix "developing some personal pride about taking money from the state to raise your children" - that's one of the most stupid comments I've ever come across.

Or, alternatively, recognise that as a family with a top-rate taxpayer in it, you are more than capable of adjusting your spending to address the massive £20 per week shortfall, particularly when it is for the interests of your children, whilst, at the same time, developing some personal pride about taking money from the state to raise your children.

    Just a thought.

    Alternatively again:

£44k income - income tax and NI contribution to the "state" £16,000
£21k income - income tax and NI contribution to the "state" £6,000

    Just a thought.
