I thought the coalition was meant to be saving money?

I haven't read the full post, so apologise if a similar post has been made.
I am pretty sure that this is really about defining how existing money is spent. I work in a school with a high proprtion of free school meals (the poverty criterion is education) and have worked in several similar schools during my career. During normal periods we have had enhanced staffing and funding. As Local Authrorities come under financial pressure this ' extra' money is often withdrawn. Yet the L.A. s will divert the spending, managing to retain expensive staff higher up etc. I think perhaps the govt is just ring fencing the money and trying to deflect from critcism of the impact of their measures on families.0 -
Why don't the government just say that a lot of chavs make bad parents and so they will take the kids off them as young as possible to try and instil some normal values in the kids.
Maybe they should link it to voluntary work for non earning families. Say you do one morning voluntary work and in return the government will pay for a mornings child care while you work and another morning while you can sit around without having to throw crisp packets at the kids.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. An education minister was on PM claiming it was new money but didn't say where it was coming from.0

So let me get this right. Tories committing to investing in education for young kids is wrong? Tories deciding that middle class and high income earners don't need £20 a week child benefit is wrong too, right?
But Labour's profligacy of stoking a welfare state which has effectively destroyed a generation's future prosperity by removing any need or desire to work, is a good thing?
You've got your priorities a bit wrong.
You think?
Look at it another way. Breast cancer treatment or play facilities for 2 year olds?
I think it's you who has your priorities wrong.0 -

Nothing will stop them. Its a sad fact that chav kids genetically have less brainpower than rich people. They also lack the get-up-and-go attitude of kids from decent backgrounds.
Perhaps if mummy and daddy hadnt popped them out for extra child benefit, only had one and made a good job of bringing them up, more chav kids would make it to uni?
In my halls, I 80% came from non-private educations. As to the funding, the student loan I got was paid off in a short time due to my awesome salary. My wife will never pay hers off and it will dissapear in 18 years time. Anyone leaving uni, despite their background will have the same advantages as anyone else; unfortunately, watching mum and dad pig out on special brew in front of Trisha all day long hardly engendered a decent work ethic in them.
Dont blame decent hardworking parents for making the effort; raise the expectations of chav parenthood is the only way of improving chav kids lot in life. In other words, lets drag up expectations, not try and make excuses for those that cant be bothered.0 -
Why don't the government just say that a lot of chavs make bad parents and so they will take the kids off them as young as possible to try and instil some normal values in the kids.
There is some truth in this but the problem is that 15 hours of socialisation is pi$$ing in the wind when compared with the remaining 153 hours per week that the kids will be spending at home. We are systematically absolving parents of responsibility for raising their children and shifting the responsibility on to childcare workers and teachers.Maybe they should link it to voluntary work for non earning families. Say you do one morning voluntary work and in return the government will pay for a mornings child care while you work and another morning while you can sit around without having to throw crisp packets at the kids.
I often tell people that as the electorate that they are responsible for the education system that we have and therefore have the education system that they want. Parents treat education in this country as free childcare, they want their kids off their hands so that they can go to work, as early and as young as possible. You should hear the complaints of "inconvenience" from parents if there is a training day or if the school term finishes on a Thursday. Now that we have "breakfast clubs" and "after school clubs"the kids get dropped off at 7am and picked up at 6pm by parents that have no energy left to devote to them. The parents then feel guilty about not seeing their kids and so allow them to stay up all night watching !!!!!! on their Sky multiroom or internet. I know that this happens, I have discussed these issues with primary children that I teach in the nice citizenship lessons that we are now obliged to teach because their parents don't have the time and/or the inclination.
Our daughter has always been rised by a parent, her mum in the early years and myself in her junior years. This has only allowed one of us to work full time and the other part-time, but we have saved a fortune on childcare costs, our now 12 y/o daughter is kind (she gets that from her mum), well behaved, intelligent, healthy and happy. She has been raised with our values, not the values on the government's curriculum or the values of some childminder, she knows how to cook and I know if she is after pocket money because the place is dusted and polished.
Parents are being absolved of their parental responsibilites and those responsibilities are being passed on, in one way or another, to teachers, social workers, healthcare workers and police. Furthermore, when our unloved children grow up to be badly behaved or criminal then it is the above public servants that get the blame. I don't want to spend the first 45 minutes of my afternoon teaching session coaxing a naked 9 year old down from a tree in the playground from where he is shouting abuse and spitting at passers by (this actually happened), there are 29 other kids in the classroom missing out on their lesson, one of them might be yours.
It is probably best for us to turn a blind eye to this though, just so long as we can go to work and service our credit cards.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Absolutely nothing in your post relates to my point that you are replying to.0 -
Maybe in your tiny socialist brain it doesnt.
Arguements over university fees are nonsensical; they need to axe total numbers attending and focus on say5-10% of the population MAX as the future leaders, managers and thinkers in this country. Sending 50% of people from ALL backgrounds is pointless; not everyone is cut out to be a manager or an engineer.
UCAS does not recruit students based on whether they can afford to go; which I have stated isnt an issue.annot afford to go to university whilst dumber, richer kids can.0
