It's just a slice of bread, shallow fried.
Best done after frying the bacon, as the bread mops up the lovely bacon fat. Very very fattening, but a nice treat sometimes.

You need to fry the bread at quite a high temperature, so be careful!

You can make it either way. My Grandad used to toast the bread before frying it. I'd shallow fry it if I made it. :)

Dont put the bread in when the oil is still cold/cool as you will end up with soggy bread.

I cannot stand the stuff but DH likes it occasionally when we have a "Fry-up" or should that be "grill-up".

You can also make a hole in the middle of the bread, fry it on one side, flip it & crack an egg into the hole - fried egg & bread, yum!

A tasty and lower calorie way to have fried bread without frying, is to very lightly butter a slice of bread on both sides (or just one if you really want to have a low calorie alternative) and then toast under the grill (don't try and use a toaster!! )....You get a great taste but a lot less fat as bread is very absorbent and soaks up a LOT of fat if you fry it.

    Hope that helps

nah, just the cheap cr*p works just as well :D

Sometimes I shallow fry it and other times I dab both sides into he fat then pop it under the grill. Try both ways and see which you prefer. As was said always use hot oil :D

I fill up my frying pan with a layer of oil as deep as the bread. Heat up till its very hot, get my bread (any old stuff will do) sliced into triangles, throw it in and turn it over straight away.

Turn every 20 seconds or so cos It cookes very quickly, dont cook it too long, just golden is best or it will be too crunchy.

Out of pan onto kitchen roll, and serve.

Its VERY VERY fattening, and *may* make you feel sick afterwards LMAO!

I love it but try to only cook it on special occasions for my OH....
