John Lewis Rejections Anybody?

Just wondering has anybody applied to John Lewis for temp Xmas Selling Assistant jobs, and been rejected following your assessment?

Recently happened to me (and quickest rejection I ever got, as it was emailed just a few hours after I atteneded the assessment!). Feeling very low and demoralised, obviously.

Anybody else having terrible trouble getting even temp Xmas work?

I have never known the employment situation in this country so horrific and soul destroying!

I got rejected for an Xmas job at John Lewis last year, so you're not alone!

But they seem to employ some very strange people to handle recruitment, back home I have a Waitrose and a John Lewis near me, I applied for a part-time Waitrose job a couple of years ago, went through the interviews and got offered one, however when the lady rang me to tell me I'd got the job it was on a Sunday and I was out, I kept trying her and eventually got through to her and she said she just needed to find out the hours and she would ring me back, a week passed and I heard nothing so I emailed them and heard nothing, rang them a couple of times before eventually giving up.

I've applied for about 4 John Lewis jobs, 3 I got rejected without an interview, they asked me to go for an interview in August about a month before I was due to start uni (I'd actually applied for a part time job in March and never heard anything back so I assumed it was a rejection, and this was using the same application as before!) but I thought I might as well go and experience what it's like, I was honest with them about uni and said I might not be able to work at all but I still got an email telling me I'd been offered a job! The email said they'd contact me with a formal offer but heard nothing.

Sorry this has turned into such a long post but don't give up! John Lewis jobs are very popular, ask for some feedback, apply again and good luck!

I got rejected for a Waitrose job a few hours after attending the interview as well. I thought I'd done pretty well, but obviously not!

Asked for feedback and they never got back to me about it!

OP ask for feedback, its the only way you will find out why you were rejected,

Yes, I rang for feedback . . . and was STUNNED to be told that the assessor deemed me "too dominant." I ask you! I am the most UNdominant person you could know, as I am, by nature, a fairly quiet and introverted person. So I don't understand why they considered me "dominant."

I was told I scored well on the first task, where you had to state three facts about yourself. However, on the second - the Lego house building task - I was told that I scored low there due to my "dominant" manner.

    Still can't believe it!

For lego building, if you score high on spatial skills and are construction orientated and you are neither introvert nor extrovert - and you are with a mix of people lacking in the spatial type skills, you will naturally tend to give most input.

An unskilled assessor who possibly him or herself does not possess much spatial skills will not see why you end up giving the most input. They could easily mistake the skill differential for dominance on your part.

Hmmm, not all John Lewis assessments are the same ... I had neither of these (mine were human bingo and prioritise a list of tasks (discuss and agree as a team)).

Is the Lego house task a team effort? Did you show that you listened and took other people's ideas on board?

Sorry you didn't get further, but at least you can think what you can do differently to come across as friendly and interested in people (less dominant ... whatever that means).

Yes, tried Argos and Asda. The former, handed in completed app form to store, but they never contacted me; the latter, filled in a lengthy personality questionnaire, but failed that and was told that I could not apply again for six months!

Getting very, very demoralised and depressed.

Now the positive thing here is that you were given feedback. The negative is that you are discarding it rather than taking it onboard. Obviously no one here can say what you are like in RL, but your posts can be aggressive and as such I would say that you come across as dominant.

Feedback is something to be used constructively, not to throw aside and blame someone else.
