                    Hi everyone,
I really hope someone has been in the same situation as me and can help me out.
I need to open a bank account and i am struggling after going bankrupt on march 22nd 2010.
Heres my situation.........
I cant get a job where i have applied untill i have a bank account in my name!
BUT....
I have been refused a bank account from every bank i have tried untill i have a form of income.
I have been unemployed for 3 months now and have been trying to get a job with this awkward situation im in, but untill i have a bank account no one will employ me.
I am unable to get any benefit even as an income as my previous job was self-employed and i have not paid enough of the correct class national insurance so i am getting refused all benefits so i have no way of getting any kind of income.......
How can i get around this and get a basic account just to get wages paid into???
Dan

I think that even for basic accounts that will ask for some form of income. I guess that you can always say that you are applying for benefits and waiting for your claim to be processed. The bank is not going to check to see if you have made a claim.0 -
Paris, they don't ask for proof of income for a basic account x"If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride"

I cannot speak for all the banks but I know that The Lloyds TSB cash account asks for detalis of your income.
Your income details, including your pension and investments if relevant.
Details of any benefits you may receive.0 -

I was talking about the two 'only' BR friendly basic accounts, the only two the OP could open. Sorry if I didn't make it clear Paris.
Best wishes

i have tried barclays, loyds and hsbc and all declined my attempt!!
I got told today by an accountant that the only 2 that would accept me is post office and co op.
so far i have rung post office but again they need me to have an income!
Iv also today rung the insolvency group who are dealing with my bankruptcy and their advice was to come on this forum and ask!
there must be some way i can get an account without an income?
does anyone know if the co op account needs an income to set up???

            Hi Danzo
I think you should definatley try the Co-op. If you have a local branch go in and see them and take photo ID. My husband and I have our co-op cashminder account and no proof of income was needed. Make sure you explain you are bankrupt and are looking for a basic cashminder account there shouldn't be a problem. The cashminder account still allows DD, SO etc
