Help requesting probate

My mother has recently died and we need to get probate so we can access money in her name. The solicitor will do this for a substantial fee but I am aware we can do it ourselves and save a lot of money. Does anybody have any help/advice for how we would go about it?

Sorry about your loss. Yes it is relatively easy to do, depending on what is left in the estate, less than the inheritance tax threshhold and where you live. We did it 2 years ago and living near Peterborough just went into the local Probate office they are very helpful, takes about 20 minutes once you have filled the forms in. Here is a link to the Probate web site.
