Tesco have this Samsung http://www.tesco.com/electrical/product.aspx?R=8192147 £159, maybe you have some personal codes you can use. There used to be a code giving money off 1st order.
Boots have the Pansonic 55 in some stores £169 with triple points till 11th?
Both can use dvd-ram which lets you watch whilst still recording.
So excellent for time shifting.
Argos have the Liteon £149 with 310 voucher Click HEREMoi....?

thanks for your reply
just wondering if anyone has any of these and can recommend any0 -
mrme recommends the Panasonic highly, the Samsung is more versatile and a bit cheaper, lots of others like the Liteon. The Superdrug one is from an unknown source.
You could also consider Freeview PVRs, which record onto hard drives, and have the advantage of having tuners that will not become useless in 3 years time. Most all current DVD recorders have Analogue tuners that will be defunct in a few years.
Depends what your Grandad wants to use it for, the choice is wide. I will look for some links for you, there are plenty on this site.
