Paypal Payment Being 'Held'?

Hi, just having a minor panic and hoping to get a bit of advice, please.

I sold an item on eBay for £40, to a buyer in the USA. I sent it Airsure. I have now had a message from Paypal to say the funds are being held pending a reversal, and the buyer is 'No longer registered on eBay'.

When I go to the Resolution Centre on Paypal it says I have no open cases, so I don't seem to be able to respond or prevent the payment reversal?

Have I lost the money or is there some way I can salvage it?

    Look into PayPal Seller Protection.

You have not lost it yet but it doesn't look good. Paypal often hold back money when suspicious activty takes place, which with the buyer no longer registered it looks like this me be the case.
They are holding the money because they fully expect a chargeback on this one. Hacked account or buyer using a cloned or stolen card could be the reason.

It might not look good but of course as long as OP sent it to the address that paypal said was 'OK to send to' they are completely covered.

OP, keep an eye on your paypal account, once anything hapens in there you need to get your defence in quickly, I might even be tempted to phone paypal.

As this is a fraudulent use of a card claim it is easily defended merely with proof of postage, it wouldn't hurt to add your tracking details to the transaction if you haven't already done so.

Thanks! How do I add the tracking details now? I've looked all over but can't seem to see it. And yes, I sent it to the person's 'confirmed' Paypal address. I appreciate that IF the person's card has been used fraudulently then of course it's not their fault, but don't quite understand why I should lose the £40 from the sale as well as the £15 it cost to send it? I really can't afford to just throw £50+ away.

Log into paypal, and then into the payment received page. About half way down the page there should be a link 'add tracking info' add tracking details in there.

It's ok, it's now moved into the Resolution Centre and I've had an email from Paypal asking for further info. I just added the tracking number but apparently the delivery status is '
We were unable to determine the status of your package. Please contact the postal company directly for more information.'

Now what on earth does this mean? I sent the item using a trackable method, as you're supposed to. Yet I feel this is going to turn into my loss somehow!

It isn't unusual for tracking never to update on overseas items, Royal Mail do not guarantee it at all. However, if this is a claim for fraudulent use of a card then all that matters is the proof of posting, make sure you hassle paypal, keep on at them and remind them of their own rules. Do not let this slide, you must be pro active here they are terrible at understanding their own rules.

As Soolin said RM doesn't guarantee tracking out of the UK

Have you tried your tracking on the USPS website

Thanks Soolin, I really value your advice and experience on this board :) Most of the time I need advice it's already been answered somewhere on here, usually by you in a succinct, calm way. Much appreciated, today and on all the other stuff you've helped me with without even knowing about it.

And cyberbob - you're a star! USPS say 'Your item was delivered at 2:43 pm on October 09, 2010'. Thank you so much too.

Now I'm just keeping a close eye on Paypal and will update when anything develops.......

UPDATE: Had an email from Paypal to say I won the reversed payment case - yay! I was expecting the worst and had kind of written off the money so that's a lovely £55 bonus :D Just in time for the Sainsbury's toy sale too hehe.

Thanks again for the advice :)
