need to borrow 85-90% for my first home , I have an unblemished credit record but my parents have substantial debt, I have lived at the same address as my parents all of my life and I am wondering if their poor credit history will affect my application

Credit searches search individuals not addresses. Unless you have financial associations with your parents they will not link to you.

Could matching initials and surname cause confusion over who is who at the address, and a knock-on effect to credit records, perhaps?

Should be matched to full name and date of birth so shouldn't be a problem.

Only the named individual will be searched unless another family member is listed on their credit file as being a financial associate.
