Before i start ill say that i am currently in a job and am very happy!
But i have heard rumours that students from the ROI when finishing their degrees (in Queens or UU) are claiming benifit from the north (rent paid for) and also unemployment from the ROI.

Has anyone else heard about this? Seems a bit unfair!

Unsure if this scam is still operating (AFAIK there was a recriprocal scheme set up between SSA here and the equivalent in ROI to monitor such activities).
I know it used to, and actually went to college with quite a few who did it. It was just as unfair then, but jealousy was really the biggest problem I had with it.

Me too! People who lived in Dundalk got to sign on on both sides of the border. I was too honest (or was always afraid of getting caught!) You would do very well - the dole in the ROI is about £80 a week.

Happens regularly in the border counties but whoever is doing it is breaking the law and WILL be caught!!

they dont seem to be getting caught! think the dole in the south is over £100 now!

I thought a scheme had been put in place to stop this but several people i know have used this recently when finishing off courses at uni till they get a job.
