Cash & Carry Stores in Glasgow

HI there,
I have had a few people tell me that there are a number of Cash and Carry stores in Glasgow and open to the public. I wondered if anyone had any experience of these and how they would rate them for cost/value for money?

Please post details of where they are too please. Then we can all take advantage of them.

Hi Andy,

I visit a few Cash & Carries about 2/3 times a year - just depends what I'm looking for. Sometimes the prices can be cheaper, but the with the advent of Poundland, etc, I would advise you to be selective. The ones I visit most are ABS, Bonnypack and House of Sher. All of them are in the Tradeston area, just south of the River Clyde, on the outskirts of the City Centre.

I find ABS is great for giftbags - if you use that sort of thing. I know this site is about making savings, but I still have my standards! It's located in Centre Street and has a free car park. They have £1 deposit lockers if you or your OH have a bag with you. They provide small, clear bags to carry your personal belongings in. Try to pick up items with a price tag attached though, as I recall being overcharged on one occasion when there was none on the item.

Bonnypack is good for general hardware and household stuff, and stocking fillers! Haven't been there for quite a while, but they have a strict no bags policy too. It's located in West Street (but not that close to the Subway station) and has a free car park also, however, it is usually very busy and you might have to wait for a space. On street parking is available though. There is a burger bar located in the car park.

House of Sher is the biggest of these 3, and has an excellent selection of hardware, toys and household goods, located over about 5 floors (2 x lifts are available, but usually quicker taking the stairs if you don't have a trolley). You can buy paint, wallpaper, pictures, car accessories, clothes, shoes, gardening items, etc, etc. If you enjoy shopping, or having a look around these type of places then I would definitely recommend a visit here. Again, there is a free car park and a no bags policy. (Hand your bag in, collect a numbered ticket, collect your bag on the way out.) There are toilets, a small cafe and a drinks vending machine. It's located in Wallace Street and if coming from the North of the City then the off-ramp from the Kingston Bridge leads you around the back of the building and almost right to it.

Sorry I can't give you specific directions, but the RAC website is generally quite good for these. But if you're stuck, gimme a shout. I should tell you, that all of the C&C's get really busy at this time of year, in the run up to Christmas, but they are all open 7 days a week.

i have had some experience but mainly the cash an carry shops add on vat when you get to check out and to be quite honest, you can get better quality and cheaper prices overall from pound shops. cash n carry's are mainly aimed at businesses who buy in bulk and not the ordinary consumer.

have bought a lot of my outdoor christmas lights from ABS in glasgow.the prices are cheaper than buying in stranraer but you have to buy a certain amount or they add on extra.alright if you are spending a lot of money.

I use these cash and carrys too,take a calculator and add about 18p on to every £1.00 to work out vat......Sher's is huge,you need a whole day to llok around it all.....this might help.http://www.houseofsher.co.uk/#

ABS is good smaller cash and carry,lots of clothing and house hold,but as said before,their christmas lights are good,sold quite a few on Ebay.


Bonnypack,is huge too,always busy at christmas,as the toy section is good, and electricals.

Just be wary of the prices plus vat and the customer service is not always the greatest,and they give you black bin bags to put your items in take home......but you can find bargains.;)

They all say children not allowed,but they are,if going with you....:A

There's also Makro at Hillington and Costco at Springburn. I find these places are better for things like cases of soft drinks, and bulky food packs.

You can get a Day Pass for Makro AFAIK.

ABS and Bonnypack offer excellent value for money.

Especially for smaller items like DVD's and ornaments. It's where the independent pound shops buy a lot of their stock.

House of Sher is more upmarket and not as cheap. Very disappointing in fact.

junction 20 off the m8 motorway, come down the slip road and it turns to the left. go straight over the lights and its there on the left.

Hi there,
I have been reading these posts and also keen to hear from anyone who goes to any of the Cash & Carrys in Glasgow.

I am actually wanting to get Fancy Dress items, and know that there is at least one supplying such stuff but im struggling to find out who and where.

CAN ANYONE HELP??
