Rip-off prices in NI

Why is it that companies think we are stupid and still charge us much higher prices in NI than in the rest of the UK?

One example is Plenty kitchen roll which I try to buy if the price is 50p a roll or less. Saw on a forum the other day that it was on offer in Lidl @ £3.49 for an 8-pack. Was getting ready to make a trip to my local store tomorrow to stock up when I thought I'd check the website to see what other offers are on & to my disappointment discovered that we in NI are being charged £4.30 for exactly the same product!

Here are the 2 links:
GB @ £3.49
NI @ £4.30

(Surprisingly, it's a bit cheaper down south at €4.70 -about stg£4.10.)

Seems like a huge difference to me. Somebody good at maths/percentages may be able to work out just how much Lidl bosses take us for mugs. As far as I know, wages here are generally lower so people here can ill afford to line the pockets of greedy companies. I'll certainly not be shopping at Lidl this week. Rant over!!

Lidl in NI is part of the Irish operation, rather than the UK one, I believe. The prices are very often different, and the specials are too - but even when stuff is on special, it's often not as much of a bargain as in the rest of the UK :-(

That's correct. Lidl NI belongs to Lidl IE, and not to Lidl UK.

So the prices will unfortunately always be closer to the Irish prices then to the UK prices.

The unfortunate reality is that imported goods will always cost more here in NI (and to a large degree ROI too) as the cost of logistics and volumes of goods coming over here make it costlier to supply such goods.

    Vote with your feet:T

Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's prices are UK set and mostly the same throughout the UK, shop with them instead;) If Lidl has cheaper prices than these for certain items then buy them there. Alternatively just do what half the population now do and shop at Poundland:D:D:D they seem to have an even pricing policy:D:D:D
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Not the petrol steveymp, Asda are the only ones that keep their petrol the same price over the whole UK, Tesco et al just go by the nearby prices. A good reason to buy Asda petrol in NI.

Agreed :) but as I'm 3 miles from Donegal, I just pop over the boarder to top up for cheaper:)

I've done that a few times recently when in Donegal and I think the petrol isn't as good. Normally I would pay 4 or 5p/Litre more in N.Ireland than in Donegal, but I think I get more miles out of it. I'll have to calculate it out precisely, but I'm convinced the unleaded isn't as good in donegal

I also think Asda's fuel isn't as good either

Your (everyone's) driving probably varies far more than differences in qualities of 95RON fuel. Try letting someone else fill up and not tell you where it's from!

I'm convinced my local station has better fuel than the supermarkets and those in Donegal.
