Message to ring 0871 number, is this a scam?

Both last Saturday and this Saturday I have had a message on my business phone to ring James at DPS (?) or DTS (?) (Bit unclear) on 0171 208 4197, as there is a 'message' waiting for me. Well, this week it is a 'message', last Saturday it was a 'delivery'.

I have read on this website that 0871 are expensive to ring, so I am very suspicious about this - especially as I am not expecting anything, and if I was why ring my business number only on a Saturday morning - when I might reasonably be expected not to be in the office. (I work from home but have a separate business line which just takes messages evenings and weekends).

I was curious enough to ring the number yesterday, but got a recorded message saying that 'one of our agents will be with you shortly' then a lot of recorded music. I only stayed on the line for 40 seconds, as I didn't want to rack up a load of call charges.

So is this a scam? Anyone else had one of these calls? Or am I just being too suspicious having read this site for so long......

I would not worry - certainly don't phone them. If it is important they will come back to you.

  • I've had this call a few times. The beginning of the message is indistinct, then you're asked to ring a number. The calls were so similar that it must be a recording. I reckon if it's important, they'll call you back.

    I ignored it.

Thanks for all the replies, in fact the number in the title of my post was correct, but I made a typo in the full number (durr.. bad day yesterday!), the full number is 0871 208 4197.

I think I will ignore it - I am not exactly difficult to find if they want to deliver something!

Thanks again for all the responses.
