Your accountant must now you are thinking of bankruptcy. Why not ask her?

  • no,

this was for a failed business, she knew of our finacial pressures but closed the books because she knew of a rather large tax return i would be due (£6.6K) which i have had and she then sent the bill.

i feel ashamed to talk to her as she did the work in good faith and I would/will happily pay her but i dont want to land myself or her into trouble.

If you are looking at bankruptcy then you should treat all creditors the same regardless of how nice or nasty they have been to you

Hmm I am in exactly the same situation and although am not bankrupt yet or filed for, (meeting with finance person at CAB on monday), i know i will have a accountant bill and VAT both of which i have money for. about £1k each. But I am guessing i wont get my final accounts back from accountant until the bill is paid. I would feel bad if i didnt pay as they have been helpful (although always big bills).

As DI has already said, all creditors no matter who they are must be treated the same.

Can i inject my question, it seems to be related ...

I understand that all creditors needs to be treated the same, but why to make new creditors ? what i mean is, lets say i have decided to go BR and havent submitted my forms yet, why would i stop paying for services received ? you are not stoping to pay your phone bill etc. so why not to pay for services of accountant in this case ? Because at this point of time accountant is not creditor any more or less as your phone provider ?

I would have guessed that OR and court would like your BR to go as smoothly as possible without affecting other people or businesses more then necessary.
