Supermarket wines, beers - save now

Now is the time to buy wines, beers and spirits at supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsburys in time for Christmas. There are lots of discounts, special offers and deals at the moment. But at the beginning of November all this will change. The deals will disappear and the prices will go up massively - by about 30%. No new deals or price reductions till the middle of January. Typically a bottle of Aussie chardonnay which is currently selling for £4.75 per bottle will go up to around £6.50. Last year, all cheap/mid price wines were hiked by between £1.50 and £3.00 per bottle. Beer went up by about 35%, as did brand name spirits. Buy now and keep out of temptation until Christmas. You could save hundreds if you are buying for a big party.

Are you sure about this?
I used to work on the Beers, Wines and Spirits department at Sainsbury's and between now and Christmas was the time all the offers came online. In November all the Reps will start coming into all the stores making sure that their products are being priced correctly and the shelves are full with their products. It was something like 75% of Baileys total years sales came during that promotion.
When I was there I remember Sainbury's having half price Baileys. It was a Nationwide competition between stores who could exceed their sales target for that, the store that won the most got £500 the staff SSA (Sainsburys Staff Association).
There was also the 2 for £20 on the different 20 packs of beers. Extra staff form head office and the back office staff all come to the shop floor to ensure the BWS shelves are full.
It really is the worst time of year to work on the BWS department!0 -
Have to say I always thought the 'big' times of year (i.e. World Cup this year and Xmas) sees many brilliant ofers as the supermarkets know that there is a huge market at that time and need to get in on the act or risk losing custom...I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0
