Nationwide Mortgage Holiday Joke

We have just been informed by Nationwide that 'financial difficulties' is not a reason to give us a mortgage holiday. This defies logic. We took out the mortgage on the understanding that the mortgage holiday option was available Does anyone else have any experience of requesting a mortgage holiday from Nationwide? Can they offer any advice on how to take this forward?

I'm not aware than any lender offering a mortgage holiday would enable it to be used for "financial difficulties".

Maternity, home improvements, holiday of a lifetime, perhaps.

What, specifically, is causing your difficulties? It may be that these are better looked after via the lender's arrears management programme.

What is the cause of your financial difficulties?

Entering into a mortgage contract in the knowledge that a holiday is more than likely going to be required is irresponsible. A holiday is marked on your credit record as arrears so not something to do if possible.

Thankfully, mortgage holidays or authorised arrears as they ought to be known as, appear to have been cracked down on. They were far too abused by people for silly things.
