incapacity benifit

Why is incapacity benifit not counted as income for tax credit purposes like my mingy £47 a week carers allowance.
I know several people on ib who don't declare it.
Same as people who get £50 a week child maintenance and don't declare it.

Only taxable Incapacity Benefit needs to be declared. As child maintenance is not taxable that is also ignored.
  • For new claims it's only lower rate short-term incapacity benefit and transitional awards of incapacity benefit that are not counted for income tax purposes, apart from those long term IB awards that can be linked back to before the law changed in 1995.
