House !!!!!! Programmes

Why do people go on these shows? Are they that thick they cant use the internet to find a house? Check with an estate agent? Or do they just want to be on tv?

And why do they always have loads of money to spend? Why not show a person on an average wage looking for a house?

All of them want to be on TV

    Most of them are debt-junkies

    Some of them are idiots

None of them end up any better off than they would have anyway

Because the Uk public seems to have developed an unhealthy obsession for "fame", however fleeting, as evidenced by the numerous "freak-wrangling" shows.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
  • Don't know if you've noticed a recurring theme on these shows recently, they never actually buy anything and if they do the sale falls through within a few weeks as they've "changed their minds".
Most are fame hungry show-offs though.

To be honest I cannot think of anything worse than broadcasting to the nation how much you've just spent on a house. Or not as the case may be.

they're fictional - would be buyers and, occasionally, vendors.

a place in the sun is a good example. a colleague's ex-wife appeared on this prog a few yrs ago. she knew someone in the production co.
the chat went something like this:

'fancy a week in spain? all exes paid? just look around a few properties on camera and feign interest.'

    'OK'.

they're all (IMO) reality shows without the reality.

Doesn't that apply to all so-called "reality" shows?

Don't care. I only watch a Place in the Sun for Amanda Lamb.

Most people on the ones abroad are only on it for the free holiday - I know someone who applied for it.

Maybe if you're a big fan of the presenter? I had a crush on Krisitan Digby, and would do almost anything to meet Sarah Beeny!

I don't know. It's not like Ch4 do anything to sell the big advantages of going on their show to me.

I suspect in many instances, the people going on want to brag to the world how much their potential new house will cost them. What they can afford when it's fancy and expensive. Many people think you can measure someones success by the size of their mortgage.
Channel4's top-rating property programme wants to help you in your search for the perfect home. To do this we are seeking house hunters who would appreciate expert opinion and advice from professional property hunters Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer on what and where to buy in your desired area. The show will focus on the process of your search. It will be a frank and factual account of all the negotiations.
A person I know bought a house not long ago, with the vendor accepting a significantly lower offer. They'd just moved in, were sitting down infront of the TV with their cups of tea, resting from the move into the house.... and suddenly their house appeared on one of these property-!!!!!! shows. 2 "lookers" being shown around his house. Pretty trippy. The lookers still hadn't sold their own house, but the house they showed him was the choice pick of all the properties the experts showed.

It's because the production crew need people to create a program so they ask people they know or friends of friends if they don't mind being on TV.

I know a couple who went on one of those property !!!!!! shows with Krisitan Digby, and also someone who works in TV (but not on those shows).

If it's based near where you are you get a few drinks out of it, possibly a nice meal, 15 minutes of fame and an IOU out of them.

In my case people I know tend to try and keep it quiet that they have done a show but they always get caught out by someone. :D
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

We once viewed a quirky house that was filmed for 'Escape to the Country,' having been hanging around on the agent's books for some time. It was potentially a good place for the right people, but we weren't them! When it was on the box, things like the threadbare fitted carpets and grotty shower room didn't show at all, and overall, it looked far less tired than it was.

I recall that someone bought the place a short while after the TV airing, so the exposure may have paid off for the vendor. Having had a quick makeover, it returned to the market about 6 months later at £100k+ more than the asking price we'd considered. If I remember correctly, it didn't hang about a second time, either.

There were, and probably still are, properties out there for those with the vision to develop them correctly and achieve a quick turn-around, but 'it's not a job for a novice, ' as someone once said. Get it wrong and you can land yorself in deep do-dos. :(
