I had a ccj in 2005 for £1,600 I was ordered to pay £25 a month from jan 2006 which I have done without fail to booker management, I have recently looked into this as i presumed it had nearly finished and I needed to raise some money for a new kitchen and bathroom as mine has been condemned, but have found that apex credit have taken over the account and have charged solicitors fees they are now saying I owe £1,999 can they do this I am devastated as I really thought I was about to be out of debt, I dont even now how to go about it if they are in the wrong can anyone give me advice please.

Hi
Did apex saying they had taken over the account and giving this new balance?
Have you had any paperwork recently from booker management or any since the CCJ was granted?
From what you have written its seems unlikely that this is right or that they can increase the debt.
Do you have a copy of the original judgement? At the time did you ask the court to pay in installments or did you agree with booker that after the CCJ was granted?
Edit - not sure if this factsheet may help at all http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=18_interest_charges_on_a_consumer_credit_judgment but might be worth a readA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Yes apex said they have taken over and the 1st letter I received said I owed £935, I phoned booker to question this as I presumed it would be lower working out the maths they said I need to speak to apex, then today they say I owe neary £2000 as solicitors costs have been added,
I do have a letter from the courts saying "you must pay the claiment £1496.17 for debt (and interest to date of judgement) and £120 for costs
total £1,616.17.
the court ordered me to pay £25 a month.0 -
Have you contacted the court to find out what the situation is?
If you have been ordered to pay £1,616.17 @ £25 a month then thats what you need to pay. If they are trying to retrospectively add costs to a judgement made then they would have had to apply for a redetermination hearing.
Sounds like they are being very naughty...
