after spending ages trying to get 588.8 I managed to get 593.5!
the best place to hit the penguin is as late as possible on the top half of the body, so that it flies 3/4 of the way up the screen and bounces when it lands, rather than going head first into the snow. Too early and it will go skywards for around 500 max, too late and it will bounce almost straight away and not go far at all (180 ish)

516.5 so far. I've seen worse versions of this game. One of em had spikes on the bat!
