Large TV

I am just about to move into my very first home with my partner and want a new TV to go in it.
I am after either a flat TV (Plasma, not LCD) or Rear Projection. NOT a normal TV. I would like widescreen, but thats not essential.
The TV must be at least 40" screen.

I have found a 'SAMSUNG SP42Q2HL 42" 100HZ+STD SILVER' for £609.48 inc VAT + free Postage through my lloyds tsb online shopping.

Also 'THOMSON 52BW613 52" *100HZ* SILVER' for £973.93, again through my bank with free postage.

are these tv's any good or can anyone give any other advice or alternatives. I would like to spend under £1000. the lower the better.

Sorry to be so specific

I have a Toshiba RP TV and it is simply awesome. Personally I think plasma and LCD are overpriced in comparison if compared on pure performance terms when looking at best models. I have seen all the best ones and chose a RP TV knowing that in two years time, when high definition is around, then I can choose again and not loose too much cash ... and maybe go the plasma (or whatever is best then) route. Depreciation on most existing plasma's will be huge once Sky launch High Definition.

Not answered your question other than suggesting check out Toshiba!! I would search for those models you suggest online, both for reviews and best pricing. Mine is a Toshiba 42WP29 with freeview and surround. You may get it for around £1000 if you shop around. Mine was a lucky e-bay buy ... brand new for £750 incl. delivery :-)

You must go for widescreen though!!!!!! I suspect the bank are selling old stock. 42" widescreen is perfect. I reckon larger would just be too imposing unless you have a huge lounge. Just a view.

There is a TOSHIBA 42PW23 available on ebay from the company I bought mine from. It's £599. Discontinued now but originally £1700! Might be worth checking reviews/forums out as I don't know that specific model. Two reviews I found via Av Forums rate it very highly. It also has component input to maximise quality. Brand new with Toshiba warrentee. I have no relationship other than very happy customer :-) Seems a bargain to me ...
