Photography courses

I wonder can anyone help me.....
My OH is a keen amateur photographer, and I was thinking of signing him up for some sort of photography class or something for his Christmas present. The only places I know of that do this sort of thing are the 'Regional Colleges' (as they like to be known, but they'll probably always be 'the tech' to someone my age!) But, the problem is that the 'beginners digital photography' type courses are far too basic (he is an IT professional, so stuff like file sizes, and transferring your photos to the computer etc would have him gnawing his arms off with boredom), but the more advanced type classes seem to be aimed at trainee professional photographers, and are held during the day rather than the evening. He is very artistic, so his photos are pretty good anyway, but I'm sure that with some technical knowledge they could be really special. But for all that, it is a 'hobby' type class that I am looking for.
We are in the Ballymena area, but for a decent class I could persuade him to go to maybe Belfast, N'abbey, even Magherafelt direction. But thats not much help, as I can't find any classes anyway!
So, are there any amateur photographers out there who could suggest anything? I was all excited about the very original present that I had come up with, but now I can't follow it through at all!

I have been looking for one of these courses as well. Lisburn Atlas Womens Centre offer one that is open to anyone but only run it when they have sufficient numbersThe Daily Mail

Maybe a one to one day on something like landscape, portraits, glamour etc with a professional would suit him or perhaps a weekend course with limited numbers. You will find loads if you google 'photography courses' or look in the back of any of the popular photo mags.
Most are in England but there are some in the ROI.
Just realized the date of your post, you've probably sorted his Xmas present but there's always birthdays!!!!0 -

:rotfl:do you mean 'glamour' as in taking photos of ladies in bikinis, or even out of their bikinis? I know I said it was for Christmas, but even if his all his birthdays and Christmas came at once, I'm not that generous a wife!!
Seriously though, thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate your help.0 -
I would normally recommend the techs, sorry regional colleges but it really depends on what you are looking for.
It also depends on the price you want to spend, some of the best courses can be with the likes of the OCA (Open college of the Arts) and OU (Open University) but they are up to 2 years part time postal tuition - but a range of subjects.
There are a range of people offering 'photography training' as its the latest thing to get into but always get references or look for something from an education establishment or professional photographer. Your OH would hate to get info from someone who has the same (or less) skill level than himself. Ive heard of some people paying for photography training then setting up themselves the week later (ok I've seen it with my own eyes ;-))
There is a wider range of courses available across the water as there isnt really the market here in NI or indeed Ireland (if you havent already guessed I'm a photography/trainer/tutor) to get groups going and any of the regional training establishments would refer people on to the likes of me or one of their centres across the water. There is more demand for the professional type courses which are the ones I deliver.
If I had to make any recommendation Id either say try the local college or just spend the money on a photography trip for the two of you. Go somewhere scenic and just take photos for a couple of days.0 -

Yes, that sort of thing, commonly referred to as 'boudoir' photography. But, you know, we photographers don't see them as females just as art..........cough, cough, Go on, don't be a spoilsport, make his day:j:j:j0
