Alternative Reading for a Wedding - Rock / Metal Fans

Options
Hello,

My sister is getting Married in 5 weeks (I seem to be attracting weddings like the flu this year) and has asked me to give a reading.

Now she knows perfectly well that its not likely to contain anything too lovey dovey, as I am not really that type of person.

We cant have a religious one because its at the register office.

I was thinking it would be really nice to either read something from a song most peole would know or use the "tune" from a well known song and add my own words.

Groom, grooms family, me and some of my family are all in to rock and metal \m/

Best idea I have so far is editing Nothing Else Matters by Metalica.

I am also open to any other alternative readings anyone might know of, as I have spent hours looking and most of the stuff is vom fest soppy!

Hi, nothing to suggest but will be watching this thread as my own wedding is slightly alternative and we have had no luck so far on finding any readings!
  • Metal chick here \m/ I will see if I can find anything for you. I am taking my vows from a song but it's from a country song lol, and very soppy. I have metal ears but a soppy heart haha. How about Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls? Kinda soft rock more than metal though. No-one does a love song like a metal band, just trying to think of a few. Will get back to you!

I could obvioulsy pick a more pop type song, but where is the fun in that, there are loads of them to choose from! hehehehe

I am going to get on to the best man tonight for some more inspiration for bands, but his family are more of the Metalica, Guns and Roses, Megadeath, Pantera type of fans.

    Slipknot~'She is everything to me
    The unrequited dream
A song that no one sings
The unattainable, Shes a myth that I have to believe in
All I need to make it real is one more reason
I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do when she makes me sad.'

we had this song (vermillion part 2) for our first dance song, lol. we both love slipknot, and this song was slow and kinda romantic..until you actually study the lyrics!

the one downside to doing nothing else matters is that i think its actually about suicide! not really a wedding type thing, but some of the lyrics fit..

i like your idea, but i found it very hard to find a metal romantic wedding song! lol..i'm sure they exist :) will have a think and see if i can think of any.

There is a nice song, which was almost a conder for our first dance by a band called Sikth, its called 'In This Light'..but wether the lyrics are any good i'm not sure!

anyway..i'll shut up and now and start looking!

    x
Now a married lady and loving it! Now..to clear that pesky mortgage!

Your right its proper hard! lol

Ive looked at loads of songs! I would love to get up there with a totally staight face and do something really out there, but think some thing at least with a hint of romance would be better.

As I said in the other post about first dance songs, my mum suggested, like a bat out of hell he will be gone when the morning comes! But they really do love each other so dont think that would ever happen.

does it have to be rocky? Yes i'll marry you by pam ayres isn't at all religious.
Yes, I'll marry you, my dear,
    And here's the reason why;
So I can push you out of bed
When the baby starts to cry,
And if we hear a knocking
And it's creepy and it's late,
I hand you the torch you see,
    And you investigate.

Yes I'll marry you, my dear,
    You may not apprehend it,
    But when the tumble-drier goes
It's you that has to mend it,
You have to face the neighbour
    Should our labrador attack him,
And if a drunkard fondles me
It's you that has to whack him.

    Yes, I'll marry you,
    You're virile and you're lean,
My house is like a pigsty
You can help to keep it clean.
    That sexy little dinner
    Which you served by candlelight,
    As I do chipolatas,
You can cook it every night!

It's you who has to work the drill
    and put up curtain track,
And when I've got PMT it's you who gets the flak,
    I do see great advantages,
But none of them for you,
And so before you see the light,
    I do, I do, I do!
saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.
We're 29% of the way there...

Theres an alternative reading thread on YAYW that I just went and had a little mooch at. Its mainly readings from books tho and nothing I would consider being that 'out there'! However it gave me the idea that I could take a passage from mine and H2B's favourite book and have that. Just need to reread it now and find something suitable.

Right, so thats me sorted, now back to rock songs and your sister......

A friend of the bride & groom did something similar at a family wedding for a reading. He took extracts from lots of different songs that he knew the B&G liked and put them together so that they flowed like a poem. We, as guests, had fun playing 'name that song', trying to identify which songs the lines had been taken from :)

I do like that Pam Ayers one, very funny and quite fitting in places.

I might have a go at the song lines one, or even song titles. That might be easier then finding a verse from a song, I will share my attempts with all with you.

Although I havent given up completly, my sister is useless with song words so will be quite funny, as she wont pick up on that as obvioulsy as others! hehehehe
