Its only hd ready and not full hd so in my opinion not worth £499 let alone double

It says it is 1080p I think that is full HD unless you know different.
IMO with it being 400hz and 1080p and a panasonic 42"plasma it is worth £499

not very good reviews about the picture quality?

    http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/629006/PANASONIC-TX-P42U20B%7D/tab/reviews#reviews

It does seem to contradict itself on the comet website because it says hd ready on the screen and on the info says full hd ? Should say one or the other.

Not sure what went wrong with the post?

You are right 1080 is full hd but then it says hd ready on the picture of the tv ?

I just purchased this one http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-viera-tx-p42s20b-42-full-hd-plasma-tv-04965896-pdt.html
worth paying an extra £30 odd quid for 600hz

HD ready means it's ready to receive a HD signal. I have a Samsung with 1080p and a freeview HD tuner built in...and it's still only says HD ready!
  • I believe the "Full HD" brand has been deprecated, as it didn't specify the need to accept & reproduce 24hz, 50hz & 60hz signals.

"HD Ready 1080p" is the brand that supercedes it, and requires full support for 24hz, 50hz, and 60hz signals. (along with 1:1 pixel mapping).

This thread over @ avforums discusses the issue.

HD Ready DOES NOT mean that it's not Full HD. These marketing terms have been twisted and mashed up by salesmen. To get an HD Ready sticker the TV must have at least 720 lines top to bottom and at least 1 HDMI port. Full HD (or Full HD Ready to be logical about it, the 'ready' bit means you can plug an HD source to get HD, without that it's just SD) is for 1080 vertical lines. Should mean 24p capable too these days.
Good TV with excellent colour and blacks.
