List of banks who ask "have you EVER been bankrupt"

Could we compile a list of which banks ask the dreaded "have you EVER been bankrupt" question in their online application process for current accounts?

I can contribute 2 who do:-

Natwest
Santander

(interested if anyone knows about Lloyds or First Direct).

Thanks

  • To my knowledge they all ask ( as they do credit checks anyway ) except Barclays & Co-op will forego the need for a credit check assessment on the Basic Barclays & Cashminder Coop accounts.

Also for savings accounts the Yorkshire Building Socity have a basic internet saver. I was never asked the BR question....& opened account online in about 5 minutes. No DDRs & I have a cashcard.

Have to agree with SSA, even if it is not asked on their online application it will soon rear its head in their credit check.

Sorry I meant from the perspective of those who are passed the 6 years and therefore it's not on the CRAs files any longer. Like me! :j

    Do they?

    Interesting?

They are free to ask if they want to.

Perhaps I should have done a bit more research.

If it helps anyone, I've discovered that for Lloyds and First Direct if you elect to download and print the application form (rather than submit on line) their application forms DO NOT ask the dreaded question!

    Cheers.

Would they know if you say NO! as if its fallen off the credit file the only place they would be likely to find it is on the london gazzette site? Im not sure they would go that far for a current account although they may do for a mortgage.

It is a mandatory question on all mortgage applications.....if I remember rightly from my Mortgage Advisor days the words are -

``....have you ever been declared bankrupt or entered into any arrangements with creditors for the repayment of any debts.``

Hmmmm funny what the brain chooses to remember.

Btw....if you answer incorrectly to this question on a mortgage application then by signing the application it would be classed as mortgage fraud.
