The 10/10/10 Wake Up Call

Hi folks,
This is my first post on here and I'm both nervous and excited to be posting on here. I've spent time reading previous posts and am inspired by you all :T
My debts are as follows:
Egg Card £1333.79 (17.9%)
Tesco Card £1923.22 (16.9%)
Virgin Card £2634.12 (0%)
Total as @ 10/10/10 £5891.13
Why today is a Wake Up Call
I was in debt in my early 20's and was proud to have paid them all off in 2006. I remained debt free until April last year when I became single again and decided to remain in the house we rented together whilst still living as if there were two salaries paying the bills. Fastforward exactly 18 months and I now have debts totalling almost £6k.
I'm going to be 30 next year and I don't want to be in debt anymore.
I plan to pay off Egg and Tesco by the time I turn 30 in April. That is also when my 0% ends with Virgin so I need to move that debt if I can at that point because I don't think I'll be able to pay that off as well before the 0% ends.
My ultimate goal is to be Debt Free by Christmas 2011.
Things I'm going to do to help me become Debt Free:
Get up early to allow me time to walk to work (weather permitting)
Take lunch to work and not take any cash
Stick to my shopping list in the supermarket - no more impulse buys!
No more credit card spending
No buying of toiletries / clothes / makeup unless I need it - no more impulse buys!
Clear out and sell on ebay
Start a spending diary including value of all food wasted and thrown away because I bought it then didn't eat it.
Wish me luck!!
Also if anyone can tell me how to add a signature to my forum posts I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks

Can't believe how much life has changed in 2 weeks!!
My landlord has offered to sell me the house I'm living in and after speaking to my Dad about my lack of deposit and debts he has agreed to help me out so I'm now debt free!! :j Well at least until I get saddled with a mortgage but that will take a while to sort out so for now revelling in the joy of debt free-ness and counting my blessings to have such a generous Dad :beer:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. cash back queen-read first post and thought I'd reply to encourage you. Then read that u are debt free now!!!!!!!!!!!That was mega quick!!!!!!!Thank you to a nice Dad!
You hav been in it twice now and have been lucky enough to sort it out one way or another. Please learn a lesson form this and be strong so that u never get into this situation again. Preacution is better then treatment!!!and in the case of debts it is the fl****** interest rates that pluge you into the path of destruction.0 -
Thank you for your comments - and offer of encouragement! I know where you are coming from completely this is my second time in and out of debt now, NEVER again! I know I'm lucky that my Dad could help and not everyone is that fortunate. The funny thing with me is that when I'm not in debt I'm so careful with money because it's all mine but when I''m in debt I spend more because it feels like it's not mine if that makes sense? So I'm determined not to be in ever debt again. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
