Its a good deal in such much as its a cheap TV, however as HD is the way things are going unless you have a need for a very large cheap TV, i'd pay the extra to go for an HD one, and preferably an LCD one at that.0 -

Sorry mate but your comment that plasma tvs have never been any good is ridiculous.
I own a Panasonic 37 plasma and a Sharp Aquos 32 lcd and I would take the plasma everyday of the week.
Your theory about waiting for the right tv will result in you never actually buying anything because there is allways something better just around the corner.

You are completely and utterly misinformed.
Plasma is not dying. Most plasma manufacturers (sony excluded) are increasing production of plasmas year on year, this year included. Current technology LCD has not been out as long as current technology Plasma. (ps, they're donkeys). Plasma actually works similar to your old CRT set, its more an evolution really.
I personally own a 42" Phillips 9 series LCD (and have owned a hitachi plasma) not to mention I work with the things most days (ICT for conferencing). Plasmas do have far better image quality unless you're watching cartoons on DVD. More realistic colours, better reproduction of blacks, better contrast.
Both have their advantages. Retention/burn on plasmas can still be an issue (albeit nowhere near the worry most people think, its very uncommon these days besides with these cheap crap hyundais)
The best LCD will NEVER come out 'at a good price'. As poster before has mentioned, there is always something better round the corner, and the best will always command a ridiculously high price just because it is the best.
Look at the Philips ambilight. £3500 for a 42" LCD.0 -
I remember hearing that plasmas lose half their brightness after about 3 years average use?

No offence guys and girls, but if you're looking for a "quality" 42" plasma/lcd tv that is guaranteed HDTV then you should be paying no less than 1k. In the TV world the phrase "you get what you pay for" rings very true

EDIT, and if you want future proofing, you need to go HDTV

Remember plasma TV's use up to 4 times the electric of standard CRT TV's so your electric bill will be bigger too0

this is totally wrong. Do you also belive plasmas need regassing?Waddle you do eh?0 -
So reading from this I should go for Plasmas rather than LCD?! But I am saving my money for the best mentioned either Plasma or LCD and then I want to keep my head in focus to get a 52'' or 50''.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -
No. But I have noticed plasma's tend to make quite a bit of heat which suggests what I have read in the news about them using up to 4 times more energy is correct. Heat is a form of energy.ricflairandy wrote:this is totally wrong. Do you also belive plasmas need regassing?
Take a look at a plasma watts rating and a crt watts rating and that will make the difference obvious.0
