Onions are a big no no they are poisonous to dogs.

As for veg, well TJ has them as a filler. Because of his low fat diet he needs something to fill his tum, so we use veg. (as recomended by our Vet)

As for beef I cant answer that one as TJ doesnt get anything with beef in it.

We give our dog a capsule of cod liver oil about once a week. We pierce it and just squirt it in his mouth. Keeps his coat lovely and shiny

My dogs often have one of their 2 daily meals replaced by our left-overs. I try and make sure they get more rice, pasta, potato and veg than meat, but a part from that they pretty much eat anything (including onions!)

    They love indian the best:)
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • My dogs have tended to lick around the onions.. (although I didnt know they were poisonous), they must just know.. As for left overs, I tended to give them it, and if they wanted it they would eat it.

A cup of tea in their bowl is meant to be good for a shiny coat too :)

Mutt has evening primrose capsules - she'll eat anything so I just chuck one in her food each morning. Or you could just snip the end off and squeeze the cod liver oil out.
I used to give mutt leftover scraps, but only if I hadn't used salt in cooking. I think the amount that some people (like my mother!) put in food is way too much for people, let alone dogs.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Ours get leftovers quite often. They get whatever veg, gravy and meat is left over from our sunday dinner mixed in with there usual dry food, saves me opening a tin of Butchers (they get one tin between them and I make it stretch to there breakfast and evening feed) I can usually make this stretch out till tuesday mornings feed too :money:I dont give them cod liver oil but do add olive oil to the weimys food, as hes on the skinny side and a vet once recomended this with my last weimy as a way of getting good fats into him.
They also get other leftovers too, depends on what we're eating, we also feed them fruit as snacks and they both love eating raw carrots, the pup runs to the fridge and has been known to steal fruit or raw carrots if he can get there quick enough, bypassing meat on the way :rotfl:

All our food scraps go in the dog's dinner - not that we leave much! Usually bits of fat, gravy, over-baked pizza crusts, veg etc. If I'm using fresh veg rather than frozen she gets carrot peelings and the tops and tails from carrots - she loves raw carrot. I also buy salad greens on the sell-by date and give her that, she loves lettuce as well! My mum won't eat the skin from baked potatoes so she always gets that too. However, everything is added to either complete meal or meat and biscuits as opposed to being instead of dog food. If there are a lot of left-overs I reduce the dog food a little. She's very healthy and active - many people are surprised when they find out she's 8 as they think she's a puppy!

I must confess I didn't know that onions were poisonous to dogs, but we don't eat them much ourselves. :D
