    Speaking as someone who has very little chance of getting onto the property ladder for a long time, I would like to ask a few questions of the folk who think prices are going to go up in the near future?

    Firstly, Who is going to buy these houses? A lot of people are clinging on trying to ensure that they keep on top of payments.

    Secondly, When people are struggling to refinance their mortgages, how are they going to borrow additional amounts to purchase a more expensive house (if prices go up)

    Thirdly, If first time buyers continue to be unable to get into the market, how is the pool of potential house buyers going to increase? If anything it would just be a general churning and exchanging of houses between those who already have houses (factoring in inheritance of property)

    Finally, Surely house prices cannot increase in value exponentially for ever, where does affordability come into this? People will still need incomes to sustain a healthy ratio between wages and borrowing.

    Even if there are increases in prices consistently over the next decade, it will surely be a private party for those already there and their descendants?

    In truth, perhaps we have already gone past the point of no return here? It would surely take a significant reduction in house prices (and the pain that it will cause) in order to link house ownership with affordability for the many. I just cannot see a way through this.

    I am not an expert on the subject, but what do you think on this subject. (I'm opening the floor to anyone patient enough to read this!)

    Reverting to asking prices on one house on rightmove to state all others are not falling.

    Things must be getting a little desperate.
