mortgage balance

hey all

just a quick question..... iv notice a few people have a note of their outstanding mortgage right down to the penny - how do you work this out? when i phoned my mortgage company they wouldnt tell me the balance over the phone, but said they would send it out i writing. Iv not heard anything back yet.

Sounds odd i got mine the other day just by answering a few security questions. Maybe each bank is different

They should be able to tell you there and then... basically it's your debt so you have a right to know. Are you sure they aren't sending out a redemption figure cos I know that gets sent but I thought you would be told your outstanding balance there and then. In saying that, I have a secured loan and I have to wait til they send it out to me and receive a balance statement once a year! Sounds strange they won't tell you over the phone.

Ask them for a running balance at the end of the previous month, ie 30.09.10. This should be spot on if it is monthly interest.

Some mortgages can be viewed on-line, so it's easy to log in and view your balance daily.

Others can provide a figure instantly on the phone. With Woolwich there's no on-line facility but you can ring outside office hours and get your mortgage balance from the automated system.

I can view all of my accounts on-line.
Mortgage, Savings & Current Accounts hence my signature is correct.

my mortgage is with dunfermline BS, and they def wont give it out over the phone. iv also checked to see if i could log on to view it but no luck. oh well, il phone them again on monday and request a statement is sent out
