Hi Forum, :hello:

Could any of you guys share any info on where to buy
cheap/low cost vitamins, pills and potions?

I'm not interested in the Healthspan.co.uk or Simplysupplements.co.uk types of vitamins/supplements,
as these are their own label stuff.

i'm looking for more of a supplier/stockist that holds all
different brand types and can offer at good low prices.

Any info would be greatly welcomed in these austere times.
:)
Cheers!

why not Simplysupplements? Their stuff is cheap enough and currently there's a code of EM02 to get you £3 of a £20 spend.

Holland and barrett are doing a buy one get one half price deal at the mo and shipping is reasonable.

Also healthmonthly do some good supplements but postage does rise with each product, so best to spend £40 for free delivery and theres cashback at topcashback. They are on ebay also think postage may be cheaper but not sure.

I use healthspan and simplysupplements and find both very reasonably priced..

Another company I order from is iHerb.com. Reasonable prices and brand choices. Fast delivery too.
However they are in the USA so to avoid hefty customs charges you need to keep your order under the import limit. I tend to keep my orders less than £25 and they dont get stopped by customs. When I spend more than £30 they get often get intercepted and there is a Royal Mail charge of £8 plus whatever tax they add on. Delivery also gets delayed because of this. I think the import limit is supposed to be £18.

Sorry but i wouldn't recommend buying low cost supplements, if there is one thing that's worth spending money on it's good supplements. From someone in the know i'd just like to let you know that the only reason they are cheap is becuase they are synthetically made from things like petrochemicals, your body then can't absorb them properly...it just creates expensive wee( sorry!) Also anything synthtic will say eat with food on the label.

Revital or Victoria Health - both often recommended tho not sure how their prices compare to places like H&B with their own brand supplements etc

I have now switched to buying my supplements from iHerb.com. Not only their prices are excellent, they stock huge varieties of high quality brands, & shipping costs are also very reasonable. I always do my research to compare prices, quality, plus shipping costs before I buy - I found iHerb often beats the pants off many UK sellers.

From my own experience, their customer service is first class. My emails were answered within 12 hours, two within 1 hour, & one within 20 minutes! I even phoned them once from the UK (my phone provider allows free USA calls), & my queries were answered & dealt with very quickly & efficiently by a REAL person, not machine with long confusing instructions & options to press more buttons.

For tax purposes, to assist with your calculation of GB£ - US$ (and other currencies), you can search under "Rates of exchange for customs and VAT purposes" or "Foreign currency exchange rates" in the official HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) web site.

HMRC sets a monthly exchange rates for the world’s currencies. For the month of November 2010, their set exchange rate of GB£1 is US$1.5855. So I use that and make sure my November 2010 order (EXCLUDING shipping) is at or below the tax free limit of GB£18 allowed by HMRC.

So for example, the value of my goods came to $26.68 (£16.83), then I added my shipping cost of $4 (costs more with DHL/UPS), that made a total of $30.68 (£19.35) - which is what you also see on the iHerb check out page – don’t panic! That’s fine with HMRC because the value of the goods is less than £18 ($26.68 =£16.83) excluding shipping cost of $4. Value of the goods of $26.68 is what will be declared on the shipping parcel label by iHerb.

(Some people do escape being taxed with value of goods more than £18, lucky you! If you get caught with goods value more than £18, you have to pay the tax, & also pay extra £8 for handling fees by the post office, ouch! :()

I find that the delay in delivery time has always been on the UK side. iHerb keeps you informed by emails when they have shipped the goods out, which is always very quick, provided they have not run out of stock in the mean time.

For your First order, when you use the code of NAV221, you will get $5 off the value of your goods. Then you will be given your own code to pass it on.

Give iHerb a try. I was very hesitant at first ordering from overseas, but am glad I did, save lots of £££ since & getting good quality supplements. Remember to use the $5 discount code for your first order, you can also have up to 2 free gifts from them every time you order :T
  • I get multi vitamin and minerals for 88p for a tub of 30 from wilco's. Seem to work well for me.
  • In my opinion iHerb has the best selection and quick delivery. Definitely worth trying. Here is the new 5$ discount code for first timers: XON005
